Project Types

OneDesk allows you to have unique project types. You can select a name, color, and icon for each type to visually distinguish them from one another.

Enable new project types

To enable a new project type:

  • Go to More Applications > Administration > Projects > toggle on Show Hidden Types.
  • Ten possible types will be displayed. To enable a type, toggle it to 'Yes' under the Visible column.
  • Configure the name and icon by hovering over the appropriate column and selecting the 'pencil' icon.
  • Click 'Manage Statuses' to configure the statuses for each project type.

The enabled project types will appear in number of locations, enabling you to create or utilize the project type or convert a project from one type to another.

  • You can create different project types form the 'Add' menu.
  • Utilize different project types within automation rules.
  • Change a project to another type. (Click the icon next to the name on the project detail panel).
  • Set invoicing rates based on project types.

Why use multiple project types?

It is generally recommended to only use multiple types if you have very different workflows, as enabling multiple types can make your workflow more complex. The benefit however is the ability to set unique statuses and different automations on each type.

For example:

  • Multiple departments working in one account whose projects have different statuses/milestones.
  • Different services you deliver or perform which require separate workflows.
